The Meaning of the Evil Eye
The evil eye is a curse believed to be caused by a malevolent glare, originating in Greece as far back as the 6th century BC, when it commonly appeared on drinking vessels.
Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury, so talismans were created to protect against the evil eye. It is a belief that you can catch the “matiasma”, from someone’s jealous compliment, or negative energy which can cause sudden illness or misfortune.
